Principled Design is led by Despina Papadopoulos, a design strategist, systems thinker and educator with over 16 years of experience in designing systems, building prototypes, and working with organizations to introduce innovation at the intersection of social structures and technological possibilities.

Despina has helped a diverse range of organisations to develop tools and practices such as NCR’s The Knowledge Lab, the State of Vermont, IBM, Christie’s, Concern Worldwide. She recently spent a year in Kabul, Afghanistan as Director of Business Development at Turquoise Mountain, where she worked to develop sustainable models for the craft industry. She is a professor at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program and founding faculty at SVA’s MFA in Design for Social Innovation Program. She has lectured internationally on the relationship between design, technology and ethics, including at CHI, Tate Modern, Smart Fabrics, the Jan Van Eyck Academy and the Ivrea Interaction Design Institute.
